It's very important that any operator and installer of this inverter read and follow all WARNINGS, CAUTIONS AND NOTES and all installation and operation instructions. In particular, comply with WARNINGS (possibility of serious injury or death), CAUTIONS (possibility of damage to the inverter and/or other equipment), and NOTES (included to assist you in achieving the maximum performance and longest working life from this advanced-design inverter.
GET STARTEDWhen a motorized appliance or a tool turns on, there is an initial surge of power to start. This surge of power is referred to as the "starting load" or "peak load." Once started, the tool or appliance requires less power to operate. This is referred to as the "continuous load" in terms of power requirements. You will need to determine how much power your tool or appliance requires to start up (starting load) and it's continued
(300VA-1500VA)
(2000VA-3000VA)
(4000VA-6000VA)
running power requirements (continuous load). Power consumption is rated in watts, or it can be calculated from amperes (amps). This information is usually stamped or printed on most appliances and equipment.
Multiply: AC AMPS X 220(AC voltage) = WATTS
This formula yields a close approximation of the continuous load of your appliance.
Multiply: WATTS X 2 = Starting Load for most appliances
This formula yields a close approximation of the starting load of most appliances. Exceptions are motorized appliances such as pumps, freezers and air conditioners. These appliances can have startup loads of up to eight times the rated watts.
Front Panel and rear panel presentation
1. AC outlets(this outlet may vary for different countries), for 4000VA and above capacity, output terminals are used instead of output sockets.
2. ON/OFF Switch. Turns the inverter circuits ON and OFF.
3. Fault indicator, this LED lit in red if the unit is faulty.
4. Power indicator, this LED lit in green if the AC power is present(only for PS-C and EPS series), it lit in blue if the device enter into inverter mode.
5. Battery voltage digital display
6. Output voltage digital display. For 300-1500VA models, this displayer indicate the battery voltage at the starting of the inverter and when the battery voltage drop to low battery voltage protection level.
7. DC Red Positive input terminal, connect it to the battery positive terminal.
8. DC Black Negative input terminal, connect it to the battery negative terminal.
9. AC power cord connector, connect to AC mains power(Only available on PS-C and EPS items which include charger and or auto switching function)
10. Input over current circuit breaker. Automatic trip off if the device is over current. Press it in to reset after trip off.
11. High speed cooling fans. The cooling fan automatically turns on to cool the inverter when the temperature inside the inverter exceeds the preset limit. It turns off when the temperature reduces.
12. Charger indicator. This LED lit in green if the AC power is present and it indicates that the inverter is charging the battery.
SIZING THE BATTERY
To determine the minimum battery bank ampere-hour rating that you will need to operate appliances from the inverter, and any DC appliances powered by the battery bank. Follow these steps:
1. List the maximum wattage that the inverter has to provide (as above).
2. Estimate the number of hours the appliances will be in use between battery recharges. This will differ depending on appliances.
3. Determine the total watt-hours of energy needed. Then multiply the average power consumption in watts by the number of hours of run time. For example: 2000 watts for 10 hours = 20,000 watt hours. Using the 2000 watts (or 200 Amps) for 10 hours example as above, then 200 amps is needed for 10 hours. This provides us with the basic amp-hours (AH) of battery that is required. Ten hours at 200 amps equals 2000 Amp Hours (AH). This answer is just a beginning because there are other conditions that determine actual run time. These include:
AC appliance load and time in use (basic Amp Hour) Cable gauge and length Charge level of the batteries (between use, chargers have to be able to fully charge the batteries) Temperature of the batteries (colder batteries provide fewer amps) Age and condition of the batteries (older batteries lose capacity (amp hours) Compliance with turning off unnecessary AC and DC loads. If there is any doubt about sizing the battery bank, it is safe to over estimate the amp hour requirements of the battery bank.Note:
The type of batteries you use to power your high power inverter is important. Batteries used to start engines are not designed to repeatedly charge and discharge. We recommends using “deep-cycle” or “marine” rated batteries.
Cable Gauges
When connecting the inverter to a battery bank use the thickest stranded insulated copper wire available in the shortest length practical. If the inverter & the battery are positioned within 4 FT of each other, a minimum of AWG8 gauge wire should be used to make the connections. When the distance between inverter & battery bank is 4-6 FT, a minimum of AWG6 gauge wire is required.
INSTALLING AND CONNECT THE INVERTER
Your inverter should not be mounted under the hood of a vehicle. This inverter has two DC cable connections, one positive and one negative. The order of steps in the following procedure minimizes the danger of sparking near the battery bank.
1. Before mounting and connection, the inverter ON/OFF switch must be in the OFF position.
2. The inverter should be mounted horizontally using corrosion-resistant fasteners sized #10 or larger.
3. Prepare all cable set ends with ring terminals at the battery ends.
4. Install one fuse holder with fuse on the Pos cable close to the battery bank end.
5. Make sure the ON/OFF switch located on the front panel of the inverter is in the OFF (O) position.
6. Ensure all appliance cords or extension cords are disconnected from the inverter.
7. Connect the unfused cable to the Negative (-) terminal of the battery bank.
8. Connect the Negative cable to the Inverter’s Negative (-) terminal.
9. Insulate the end of cable to be connected to the Positive (+) Inverter terminal.
10. Connect the fused cable to the battery bank Positive(+) terminal.
11. Connect the Positive cable end to the Positive (+) inverter terminal.
12. For PS-C and EPS series, Connect the detachable power cord to the AC mains socket.
NOTE: Sparking is normal for the first connection.
OPERATION
1. Turn On (I) the inverter. Make certain the Overload audible alarm doesn’t sound.
2. Turn OFF (0) the inverter. The audible alarm may also sound a short "chirp." This is normal.
3. For PS-C and EPS series, Connect the the detachable power plug into an AC mains powered outlet, the power indicator lit in green, For PS-C series, this indicates that the charger is running. For EPS series, this indicates not only the charger is running but also 220VAC power is present at it’s AC output outlets.
4. When you have confirmed that the appliance to be operated is turned off, plug an appliance cord into one of the 220V AC Outlets on the front panel of the inverter.
5. Turn ON the inverter. the inverter starts a self-detection procedure, the audible alarm sound a beep at the same time, the power indicator lit in green. The fault indicator lit in red and then turn off.
6. Turn the appliance on.
Notes:
The audible alarm may make a momentary "chirp" when the inverter is turned OFF. This same alarm may also sound when the inverter is being connected to or disconnected from the 12 volt battery bank. When using an extension cord from the inverter to an appliance the extension cord should not be longer than 50 feet.
BATTERY BACK UP TIME
You may take this simple algorithm to calculate the use time of your battery pack with the inverter:
Back up time(t)=Battery voltage X Battery Amperage X 80% X 90%/Load power.
Example: To calculate the back up time of a 12V/100Ah battery with a 100Watts load,
Back up time(t)=10x100x80%x90%/100W=7.2Hours
Note: This back up time calculation algorithm is for your reference only. Actual back up is subject to many other factors as mentioned in SIZING THE BATTERY.
